Blocks and building
Blocks and Building or playing with toy building blocks promote Baby's Language Development
Research has shown that building blocks or playing with toy building blocks have a positive impact on the development of young children. This activity is helpful indeed. Two groups were tested (1.5 and 2 years). The first group received two sets of blocks; one with 80 standard blocks or plastic toy building blocks and a set of special "blocks" such as dolls and cars. The other group of children received no blocks or building blocks toys to play with.
Children with blocks or toy blocks scored higher on vocabulary, grammar and communication. The children were watching less television. Why this is so is not clear. Maybe the kids while playing blocks were given the chance to speak to their parents. Or perhaps the building itself ensures that children develop new skills, making their language development proceeds smoothly.
